Belukha Mountain. Kazakhstan Mountains & Waterfalls. Kazakhstan mountain districts

Belukha Mountain is in the north-east, with a snow-capped peak (4506 m) - the highest in Siberia and Altai. This is the kingdom of snow, ice, roaring avalanches and sparkling waterfalls. Its neighbor Mount Berkutaul (Eagle's Dwelling), altitude 3.373 m., is the second popular peak of Southern Altai.

It is the highest pick of Altai and Siberia. Its height is 4506 meters. The slopes of its two-headed pick are covered with eternal snow and glaciers on the area of about 70 square km.
The first investigators were struck by the beauty of these places and compared them with Switzerland. You may read on the first maps of Altai such names as Severo-Chuiskie Alpy, Katunskie Alpy. The fact that the word Altai translated from Mongolian as Golden Mountains is not without reason. According to Buddhists beliefs it is the hub of the universe, Christian Old Believer consider Belovodye to be the blessed country where a human feels free and happy.

In the glaciers (the total area of about 890 square km) of Katun mountain range, a lot of rivers originate and then divide into two pools of Katun River (the Altai Republic) and the Irtysh (East Kazakhstan). Sweepingly falling down, mountain streams rush through alpine meadows, cedar taiga and queer rocks.
Belukha represents by itself an interesting object for Alpinism and mountaineering. At the same time the legends say that Belukha is a symbol of Altai. It is located at the remote, difficult to access region which has no inhabitants. The distance from Rakhmanovskie Klyuchi is 35 km and it can be coverer by walking, riding or by helicopter.
