Geographical location. The Taukum Desert. Located along the southwest banks of Lake Balkhash, along the Kurti river and along the left bank of the Ili River. Area of the Taukum desert is 8300 sq. km, its length is 200 km and width is 60 km. Saksaul, dguzgun, githyak, polin, and other plants grow in the Taukum desert.
Climate of the Taukum desert. Summer is long and hot. Average temperature in July and August is +24-26 C, and surface temperatures can reach +40 C. Precipitation can fall in April, October and very rarely in summer.
Route and difficulty. Camel riding - no difficulties. Any healthy person can join our safari program.

Travel itinerary: Almaty - Medeo - Samsy village - Tamgaly petroglyph gallery - Kanshengel - Kokshebai village - Akzhar village - Bakanas village - Malaisary pass - Kapchagai town - Almaty
Day 1. Arrival in Almaty. Transfer to hotel, accommodation in hotel "Otrar" ****. Rest. Breakfast. City sightseeing: visit to the 28 Panfilov's guardsmen memorial, Cathedral, Museum of national musical instruments, National museum, Medeo gorge, Republic square (4 hrs). Lunch. Dinner. Overnight in hotel.
Day 2. Breakfast. Transfer: Almaty - Samsy village - Tamgaly petroglyph gallery (163 km). The Tamgaly petroglyphs are a unique cultural monument, representing several historical periods, over approx. 20 centuries. Over 1000 petroglyphs from different eras, beginning with the Bronze Age, have been discovered here. Short visit. Lunch. Transfer: Tamgaly - Kanshengel - camel farm in the Taukum desert (70 km). Base camp. Dinner. Preparation for camel riding. Dinner. Overnight in tents.
Day 3. Breakfast. Camel riding: Taukum farm - Bas Zhol tract - shepherds' winter hut #21- winter hut #17 (29 km). Lunch en-route. Accommodation in base camp. Dinner and overnight.
Day 4. Breakfast. After breakfast, camel riding - winter hut #17 - winter hut #8 - Doshan winter hut - winter hut #34 (29 km). Today - early start in order to travel far before the hottest part of the day. Afterwards, (295m) we see saxaul shrubs and forests. Here we have lunch. After lunch, we continue camel riding through the saxaul forest to winter hut #34. Dinner. Campfire. Overnight in tents.
Day 5. Breakfast. Camelriding: winter hut #34 - Shyibokty winter hut - Sersembaikudum tract - Kokshebai village (29 km). Full day of camel riding through the saxaul forest. Here we will be immersed in the wild nature of the desert. Lunch on the way. Near Kokshebai, a small village, we finish our camel riding. Dinner. Campfire. Overnight in tents.
Day 6. Breakfast. After breakfast, transfer to Almaty. Transfer: Kokshebai village - Akzhar village - Bakanas village - Malaisary pass (630 m) - Kapchagai town - Almaty (285 km). Lunch en-route. Arrival in Almaty. Accommodation in hotel "Otrar" ****. Dinner at a local cafe. Overnight in hotel.
Day 7. Departure from Almaty.

Additional information:
1. Support vehicle accompanies group along the whole length of the trip.
2. Clients' personal luggage (max 20 kg) is transported by vehicle during camel riding.
3. Our company does not provide any insurance in Kazakhstan. Please obtain your own health insurance at home. It should cover all expenses (transportation to hospital and so on) in case of any accident.
4. Our company provide tents and but not sleeping bags. Sleeping bags or blankets you should bring with you.
5. We recommend bringing mosquito repellents.
6. Road Almaty - Kanshengil, Kokshebai - Almaty is paved.
