The Kazakhstan Tourist Association (KTA) was founded in May 1999 with the approval of the President. KTA is a non-commercial, non-governmental organization.
Members include the Kazakhstan Association of Hotels and Restaurants (KAGIR), Amadeus computerized reservation systems, tour operators, insurance companies, airlines, universities and the media. The association's main objective is to protect the interests of over 100 members, by lobbying the government and promoting tourism within the national economy.
KTA 's Mission:
To facilitate the creation of a world-class tourism industry in Kazakhstan by... ...initiating the following changes in legislation:
Registration of in-coming foreign citizens from 28 countries directly at Almaty and Astana airports;
Registration of foreign citizens at major hotels (KAGIR members);
Pilot project of simplified registration procedure for foreigners at local tour operators ( KTA members);
Raising profile of ecotourism;
Taskforce to develop new national standards for tourism and hotel services;
Participate in government strategy to develop tourism in Kazakhstan;
Opened first Ecotourism Information Resource Center (EIRC) in Kazakhstan in partnership with VSO;
Astana Ecotourism Information Point planned in summer 2006

National law on tourism;
Customs Code;
Licensing of tourism businesses;
Operating rules for hotel services;
New Tax Code;
2002 classification of tour operator services;
2002 terms and definitions for tour operator services;
National law on NGOs;
2006 - 2008 government strategy to develop tourism
2005 pilot tourism development project for Almaty city and Almaty region
2005 national standard for public signposting;
National tourism standards.
. Promotion and advertising:
Information tour for international press (organized by KTA and KAGIR during 2nd International Kazakhstan Tourist Exhibition KITF-2002 with the support of the World Tourism Organization (WTO) and the Agency for Tourism and Sports);
Information tour for The Daily Telegraph in Almaty city and region, Kyzylorda and South Kazakhstan (organized by KTA in May 2005)
Regular contribution to national media through press conferences, promotional material and articles about KTA ;
Regular press reviews;
Regularly attending major international tourism exhibitions and fairs: WTM (London), ITB (Berlin), MITT (Moscow), KITF (Almaty, Kazkhstan), TITF (Tashkent, Uzbekistan), MTE (Istanbul);
Cooperation with international and regional tourism organizations incl. WTO, USAID, PRAGMA, RATA, IH*RA, TURSAB.
