Kazakhstan is the land of ancient civilizations. Since times immemorial its inhabitants have been creating outstanding and original culture.
Today the admin istrative, cultural and industrial center of the region is Shymkent, the third largest city in Kazakhstan (420,000 people).
South Kazakhstan Region is famous mostly for its historical memorials - burial mounds, sites of ancient settlements, for tresses, mausoleums and ancient towns.
Center of South Kazakhstan region Shymkent city with population about halfmillon people is the third according to size in Kazakhstan.
Though the first written mentioning of the city is related to 1366 there are no large architectural monuments of the part preserved. But modern infrastructure is well developed.
At the service of tourists are two four-star hotels "Sapar" and "Kema" and some other hotels with lower ranks. There are two modern bowling centers, technopark "Fantasy world", aqua-park.
In the city is a great number of restaurants and cafe, and by quality and variety of dishes. Shymkent is the most not expensive city of republic, nutrition per man a day costs no more than 7-8 dollars. In many cafes plays life music, billiards are available, and buth-lovers will find saunas in the city to any taste.
Very interesting is regional historical museum of ethnography and situated there picture gallery.
You should add to it wonderful Zoo and dendro-park, where is represented the plant life of diverse landscape zones, the similar kind of parks, cultivated in the conditions of arid climate doesn't exist anywhere in Central Asia.
